Tom spent 22 years in
the US Army as an aviator. He is rated in both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft and
spent two combat tours in Vietnam flying helicopters. He also commanded two aviation
units in Vietnam, worked as an instructor pilot, as a production test pilot and held
positions on the Army Staff and in the formative days of the Strategic Defense Initiative
Organization (SDI, now BMDO). In SDI, he was the manager of all Ground Based Kinetic
Energy Weapons including the ERIS, HEDI, FLAGE, and SRHIT programs. He holds a BS from
the University of Tampa in Management and Economics and an MS from the Naval Postgraduate
School in Electronic Warfare Systems Engineering where he did research in the area of
refractive effects on tactical electromagnetic systems. He lives in Huntsville and is
married to Jean and they have four children, Wendy, Scott, Allen, and Mark.
