In 1996 we adopted what has become known as the Sheet of Music (SOM) philosophy for employee
growth and development. Sheet of Music management translates corporate operational philosophy
into coordinated and logical collective and individual actions. We want to use the individual SOM
as a way to help employees reach a meeting of the minds with their managers about their work and
personal goals at BAE SYSTEMS. We want to help employees meet their personal goals, while they help
BAE SYSTEMS meet its business goals. The Sheet of Music is not intended as a complex or difficult
document, but rather as a simple and succinct guidechart for your activities at BAE SYSTEMS. The goal
is to get concentrated thought into what you should be doing and make sure that it meets both
your personal goals and BAE SYSTEMS goals. Each employee should have their own personal Sheet of Music
that has been developed and coordinated with their manager.
