High Energy X-Ray Research

One of the primary activities of the group is to provide scientific and technical support for CXO
(AXAF) Project Science. As part of that effort, research in X-ray astronomy, includes Balloon- Borne
X-Ray Astronomy & Detector Development, Microwave-Interferometry of the Sunyaev- Zeldovich Effect,
Theoretical X-Ray Spectroscopy, and Applied X-ray Optics.

NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) has recently established a Space Optics Manufacturing
Technology Center(SOMTC) as a part of a broader reorganization at MSFC. The SOMTC was created in
response to the assignment by NASA HQ's of a new mission area in "Space Optics Manufacturing
Technology." The purpose of this new mission area is to enable the development of advanced
technology for the agency's future programs in the 21st century.
